Google Earth Redesign
Google Earth always fascinated us with its ability to put the world in the palm of your hand. It’s a powerful tool for scientists, educators as well as armchair explorers, that lets you view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, galaxies far in space, and the deepest depths of the ocean.
To help revitalize Google Earth we worked closely with the product and engineering teams from conception through early development, primarily providing input on UX and design. We were excited to be involved in brainstorming new features and exploring different visual directions for this iconic Google product.
A big shift was going from a desktop app to web + mobile app format. Our focus throughout was to find a seamless and delightful user experience. We wanted to let people really immerse themselves into the powerful imagery. Exciting new features includes a radically simplified UI that puts imagery front-and-center and makes the app more accessible, the ability to create Postcards from around the world, the addition of Knowledge Cards that lets you learn more about a location.
In addition to the core product experience we also worked on the product site and out-of-box experience. We are proud to have have been part of shaping the next chapter for one of our favorite products, Google Earth!
